Description:
The Royal Institute of British Architects' annual awards -- one of the most prestigious of any such schemes throughout the world -- celebrates a range of excellent current architecture throughout Britain and continental Europe. This third book in an annual series describes and illustrates all the winners, chosen after a rigorous and exhaustive judging process.
Awards are presented in a number of categories covering types of building -- housing; commercial; sport and leisure; civic and community; health; education; conservation -- and other areas recognised include the role of the client, while the Stephen Lawrence Award, presented to a project costing under $80,000, is named in honour of a black teenager, murdered in London, who had wanted to train as an architect.
The top award, The Stirling Prize, named in honour of the late James Stirling and the UK's richest architecture prize, has been awarded in recent years to Sir Norman Foster and Future Systems. As always, this year's winner will not be known until publication day.
